Visits: 1-day trip every 4 weeks
Nature of Experience:
- Consultee-centered consultation, a
residential adolescent addiction centre on an old farm in an idyllic setting
- Most adolescents are there for 6-12 months
as a condition of probation, or sponsored by CAS
- Usually a specific question from the staff
to be addressed at a round table meeting after the consultation
- Role is to provide psycho-education,
reforming behaviour to allow for therapeutic change: suggest medical management or
facilitate discussion of problem cases; i.e. practical help
- Subspecialty is Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry
Patient Population:
- Adolescents generally with conduct
disorder who need assessment for Axis 1 pathology, self-harm behaviour
- Case profiles can seem daunting but
focused questions, a team approach and low case load prevents it from being too difficult
