Visits:

  • A commitment of minimum 1-3 months, Preferably 3-6 months

Nature of experience:

  • Acute Care Program, Sudbury Algoma Hospital. The Program includes 44 patient beds with up to 5 beds of Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. Residents will have excellent exposure to acute psychiatry with one-to-one teaching by the psychiatrists on a regular basis.
  • Acute Care Program, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Sudbury Regional Hospital. Residents will have the opportunity to gain experience in emergency psychiatry and liaison psychiatry at the Sudbury Regional Hospital unit which has 24 psychiatric beds.
  • Outpatient Psychiatric Department, Sudbury Site. Program with approximately 14,000 outpatient visits per year. Experience in assessing new patients, as well as follow up of patients in the program.
  • Child Psychiatry, Regional Children’s Psychiatric Centre for Northeastern Ontario. Training opportunities available at the 12 bed inpatient care unit for children and adolescents up to age 18.
  • Community Psychiatry. Outreach visits to clinics in Blind River, Elliot Lake, Manitoulin Island, Espanola, St. Charles and Walden. The Outreach Program offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in community psychiatry in under-serviced areas of northern Ontario. Residents participating in outreach activities will travel to clinics with our faculty members who visit these clinics regularly.
