University Psychiatric Activities by Agency

Location:	Kenora - Lake of the Woods District Hospital - Agency's Own Website contact info Catchment Area: Kenora-Rainy River Districts including Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Dryden and Fort Frances areas and remote fly-in services.
Agency Information:	Lake of the Woods District Hospital is a district wide Schedule I facility offering psychiatric services in a General Hospital setting. There are 20 inpatient psychiatry beds used in comprehensive inpatient care but outpatient services are also provided. The staffing complement consists of one psychiatrist, a full-time family physician with expertise in mental health, a program manager and the multidisciplinary team (Nursing, Social Work and Occupational Therapy). The community offers a wide range of support services including a full ACT team and crisis intervention.
Collaborating Ontario Medical Schools:	University of Toronto Psychiatric Outreach Program Lake of the Woods District Hospital is an accredited University of Toronto teaching site. Dr. Usama Zahlan has University of Toronto Faculty teaching appointment. Approximately 8 one-month resident electives per year are available through the Psychiatric Outreach Program. Lake of the Woods District Hospital is also an accredited teaching site for Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Psychiatric teaching is offered to medical students.
