About the Program:	Mission Statement The University of Toronto Psychiatric Outreach Program (UTPOP) is committed to providing clinical service, education, and support of the highest quality to communities throughout Ontario, but in particular those communities which are rural, remote, or are considered under-serviced in terms of mental health care. We will continually strive toward multidisciplinary, contextually relevant, community-oriented service and education. The UTPOP evolved from a 1993 Underserviced Area Program Committee. What began early in 1994 with consultation service to Kenora, Ontario, expanded in 1995 to include the sites of Parry Sound, Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, Sioux Lookout and Timmins, Ontario. As of June 2001, the Program has continued to expand with over seventy Faculty consultants, and serves communities throughout Ontario including Atikokan, Baffin Island, Elora, Fort William, Kenora, New Liskeard, North Bay, Parry Sound, Sault St. Marie, Sioux Lookout, Surbury, Thunder Bay, Timmins, and Wawa. UTPOP electives are available in Campbellford, Cobourg, Elora, Kenora, New Liskeard, Parry Sound, Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, Timmins, Uxbridge, and Wawa. The Program also serves Baffin Island, Nunavut with monthly consultation visits and resident electives. Royal College Core Rotations in the following sub-specialities can be completed at the sites listed below: North Bay: Senior Selective: 1) Developmental Disabilities, 2) Forensics Sault Ste. Marie: General Psychiatry Senior Selective - Psychotherapy/Forensic/Addictions Consultation Liaison Thunder Bay: (On a case by case basis) General Psychiatry Chronic Care Rehabilitation Consultation Liaison Collaboration with other Medical Schools: Consultants from the University of Toronto Psychiatric Outreach Program and from McMaster University jointly provide clinical service and education in Sault Ste. Marie. As well, collaboration on information regarding outreach in northern communities is ongoing among University of Toronto, McMaster University, University of Ottawa, and Sault Ste. Marie clinicians.
