Sick Children Director: Dr. Tony Pignatiello FUNDING The Division of Child Psychiatry at the University of Toronto Program is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services. CONSULTATION SERVICES The Division of Child Psychiatry at the University of Toronto program provides bilingual services and education to 14 underserviced rural and northern childrens mental health centres, and their satellite sites using live interactive videoconferencing communication. Additionally, any children's mental health agency in Ontario with compatible technology may access the service on a limited basis. Direct clinical (consultee-centred) consultations and program consultations are offered, to address the needs of children, youth and their families, living in rural and remote regions of Ontario. SITES Bracebridge, Chatham, Fort Frances, Kapuskasing, Kenora, Kirkland Lake, Moosonee/Moosefactory, North Bay, Owen Sound, Parry Sound, Pembroke, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, and Timmins. Satellite Sites: Atikokan, Cochrane, Dryden, Geraldton, Hearst, Nipigon, Red Lake. EDUCATION As of July 2002, the Division of Child Psychiatry at the University of Toronto program is offering a resident elective in Telepsychiatry. The electives are supervised by Dr. John Teshima and members of the Division of Child Psychiatry, University of Toronto, Hospital for Sick Children. Contact: Dr. John Teshima: 416.480.6100, Ext. 3077; Email: john.teshima@utoronto.ca Level of Trainee: PGY1-PGY5 Research Elective: The resident will work on a research project related to telepsychiatry. The focus could be related to clinical service, education, evaluation methods, etc. At the end of the elective, the residents will produce an academic paper or presentation [e.g., Grand Rounds] on their project, and will be encouraged to submit this for publication or presentation at a conference. Hybrid Elective: The resident will participate in telepsychiatry consultations, as in the consultation elective. In addition, the resident will prepare an academic paper or presentation based on a literature review of an area relevant to telepsychiatry. Nature of Experience: Provide residents with in-depth experience and training in telepsychiatry consultations to underserviced communities. For University of Toronto child psychiatry residents, this elective could count as mandatory community consultation experience. |
