FUNDING

The University of Toronto Psychiatric Outreach Program is funded by the North Region Health Care Program Division of the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care to provide psychiatric services and education for those communities which are rural, remote, or are considered underserviced in terms of mental health.

CONSULTATIONS SERVICES

UTPOP outreach sites, from Atikokan to Wawa, will have the option of using telepsychiatry to help deliver complementary follow-up consultation telepsychiatry for their communities. CHIPP funding recently provided new equipment for Campbellford, a UTPOP underserviced area site that has been providing telepsychiatry consultations for several years. The new equipment will help Campbellford continue to deliver quality telepsychiatry services.

The Telepsychiatry Guidelines and Procedures for Clinical Activities manual, published by the University of Toronto Psychiatric Outreach Program, addresses many clinical and medical legal issues and concerns associated with the practice of telepsychiatry. Copies are available from the UTPOP office at the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health, Clarke Site, 250 College Street, Suite 827, Toronto, Ontario or by calling Thérèse Millette at (416) 535-8501 Ext. 4971.

EDUCATION

UTPOP’s televideo infrastructure can be used to link residents completing Royal College accredited core rotations in North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay.

Resident electives in telepsychiatry are now available through the Division of Child Psychiatry, University of Toronto, Hospital for Sick Children -- please see description below.

Continuing Medical Education [CME] seminars are also being provided to remote sites such as Sault Ste Marie, North Bay and Thunder Bay in 2006.
