RESEARCH
Research development is a core component of the
Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at UWO. The Division enjoys a strong
collaborative relationship with other disciplines involved in the care of the
elderly; this is also reflected in some of the collaborative research projects
developed between Geriatric Psychiatry and Geriatric Medicine.
Projects include:
- Clinical profiling of neuropsychiatric
symptoms in mild cognitive impairment, stroke and Parkinson disease: a
database approach
- Pattern of brain activation using fMRI in
patients with MCI during working memory task with task irrelevant emotional
picture interference
- Assessing the process of resiliency in the
face of mild cognitive impairment in the old age
- Evaluating medical residents’ experience
of elder care clinical clerkship rotation
- Multi-center medication trials evaluating
the use of atypical antipsychotics (e.g. Quetiapine) and other novel agents
(e.g. NMDA receptor blockers) in the management of behavioral and
psychological symptoms of dementia
- Evaluation of quality of life, cognition,
and depression in patients on maintenance ECT
- Assessment of confusion after ECT and
identifying risk factors
- Development of computerized financial
capacity assessment tools
- Suicide Ideation among Older Adults, and
Suicide Prevention
- Development of computerized database for
the elderly in southwest Ontario, shared by medical disciplines caring for
the elderly
Assessment of caregiver burden in caregivers of patients with dementia
